Zeh L’Zeh was founded to address two urgent and interconnected challenges: the waste of high-quality food and the growing number of families struggling to afford basic meals. Each week, large quantities of fresh, prepared food from local stores, bakeries, caterers, and institutions go unused. Zeh L’Zeh ensures that this food reaches families who need it most—efficiently, respectfully, and with dignity.
Today, Zeh L’Zeh rescues high-quality surplus food and delivers it directly to families through a structured, real-time system designed to preserve privacy and choice.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple and focused: rescue quality food before it goes to waste and place it on families’ tables with privacy, choice and dignity.
Each week, Zeh L’Zeh serves more than 325 families—over 1,750 individuals—through a private, live online ordering system that allows families to select the food their households can actually use.
More than a food program, Zeh L’Zeh provides reliable, year-round support and stability to families throughout the community.
How It Works
Zeh L’Zeh partners with more than 50 stores, mosdos, simchos, caterers, bakeries and institutions. When quality food becomes available, a volunteer driver accepts the pickup and brings it to Zeh L’Zeh.
The food is checked for freshness, sorted, labeled, repackaged when necessary and added to our live inventory. Families privately select what their households need, and each custom order is packed and prepared for a scheduled pickup.
Scale & Consistency
Zeh L’Zeh operates at a major and consistent scale:
325+ families served weekly
1,750+ individuals served weekly
200+ rescue pickups weekly
50+ steady food-donor locations
100+ active volunteers
250+ available food items
Over $10.5 million in food value annually
This 24/6 rescue network keeps quality food moving from donors to families throughout the week.
Reliable Coverage
Zeh L’Zeh provides consistent, year-round support. Families rely on the program knowing that whether it’s Shabbos, Pesach, or Chanukah, they are covered.
From pre–Yom Tov preparation to post–Yom Tov recovery, Zeh L’Zeh ensures continuous access to food—bringing stability during the times families need it most.
Our Impact
Zeh L’Zeh is more than food rescue—it is a community support system. By transforming surplus into sustenance, the organization reduces food waste at scale, supports hundreds of families weekly, preserves dignity through choice and privacy, and provides consistent, dependable access to food.
Families are able to plan their lives knowing their tables will be full—consistently and with dignity.
Our main Zeh L’Zeh location is in Monsey, with additional operations and programs serving Lakewood and Upstate New York.
From One Room to a 24/6 Operation
Zeh L’Zeh began in 2017 with food being distributed from one small room. As the number of families grew, the operation developed into a drive-through system. At its peak, more than 100 families came on Fridays, sometimes waiting approximately 30 minutes.
Today, under the leadership of Rabbi Sholom Rokeach, Zeh L’Zeh has grown into a major 24/6 food-rescue operation. Families privately select their groceries through a live online platform, individual custom orders are packed, and scheduled pickups take place throughout the week.
